With the increasing importance of open innovation, the enhancement of userleading innovation consciousness, and the rapid popularization of the Internet,it becomes possible to acquire and manage ideas based on online platforms along. It becomes an important way for organizations to establish and operate open innovation communities and attract external users to participate in innovation activities. The idea management process in OICs is divided into three stages, idea collecting, idea interaction, and idea filtering process. This study is carried out according to these existing problems in different stages, which can not only enrich the extant research on innovation community, but also provide management implications for organizations to acquire and manage external users, and carry out innovation activities. In the idea collecting process, this study investigates the influence of feedback with different parties, different characteristics on new comers’ subsequent ideation behaviors.By gathering data from the Fantasy Westward Journey mobile game forum and building Cox regression model, the empirical result shows that different types of moderator’s feedback and peers’feedback have distinct effects on newcomers’subsequent participation.Feedback from a moderator and feedback from peers can jointly mitigate a newcomer’s future ideation behavior. In the idea interaction process, this study explores the influence of signals on response behaviors.Based on signaling theory, two types of signals i.e.,affective signaling and informative signals embedded in idea posts are proposed.Using a large data set collected from the OIC of Huawei and utilizing logistic model and negative binomial model respectively, the result indicates that affective and informative signaling can indeed affect the likelihood of response both from the moderator and peers to some extent. In the idea filtering process, firstly,we examine the impacts of idea-related and user-related characteristics on idea adoption based on the Elaboration Likelihood Model.Obtaining data from the Steam Dota 2 platform, the logistic regression result shows that all proposed variables positively affect idea adoption, except for videos. Moreover, past success and the number of collaborators have a negative interaction effect on idea adoption. And then,we figure out factors affecting firm’s adopting decision from the perspective of linguistic writing style. The data are collected from the Fantasy Westward Journey game forum and the logistic regression model are employed. The result finds that member’s use of negative emotionality and cognitive orientated writing styles have a positive and significant impact on manager’s idea adoption behavior, while self-interest oriented and future orientated writing styles have no significant effect. Finally, this study leverages meta-analysis method to discuss the influencing factors of idea quality. The result demonstrates that idea-related factors and ideatorrelated factors all have a significant positive effect on idea quality. The measurement of idea quality, type of platform, and type of ideas are three factors that cause mixed findings in extant researches.
