The geological database construction and application in China have been for over 20 years of history. Especially driven by "Digital Earth" strategy and the national "Golden Land Project",lots of departments established geological database management systems.Because of industry policy and technology reasons, these muti-sourse heterogeneous, geological database management systems with comlex formats are, incompatible, independent of each other and have become "information islands".They are difficult to be shared on web.And it wastes a lot of manpower and money, as these database management systems are a certain extent repetitive function. Currently, the development of Web Service and Geographical information Systems (GIS) technology has brought informationization for the mineral geology industry a new vitality, and strong support to solve the mineral geology industry's problems in database management systems.This thesis studied the characteristics of mineral industry data by collectting and analysing the valuable mineral prediction and exploration geological data accumulated over many years by Shanxi province. Focusing on the status that the data of mineral geology industry is huge, sources are diverse, and management tools is behindhand, the spatial database system was designed for "Distributed Mineral Resources Data Management System" project of the institute of Geological Survey of Shanxi province.Then it introduce the web service technology into the construction of geological information system. The geological spatial information web service interfaces are designed and developed. At last a general geological database management information system is achieved. The thesis covers following parts:Firstly, the status in quo of geological database research and exising problems was studied. Then the paper introduced the web service concepts and technology of the development of general geological database management system.The it studied the web service key technology in detail.Based of that, the geographic information service framework of mineral geological industry was constructed. Secondly, the paper designed and implemented the geological spatial information web service, supportted by ArcGIS Sever and.NET integrated development platform. These services can be called by web applications or desktop applications to meet the needs of different users in geological mineral industry. These services include map service, map catalog service, map querying service and thematic map service,etc.Thirdly, It analysed the characteristics of geological data and designed the basic framework of geological database,and gave the description of the conceptual structure and logic structure of database design in detial.Finally, the B/S and C/S mixed-mode general geological database management information system was constructed by calling the geological spatial information web services. The system achieved the managing of geological catalog data tree.Based on that, the system implemented the functions contain the geologic map browse (zoom in, zoom out, pan, etc),querying, hierarchical display, illustration display, etc.At last, the thesis analysised the security mechanism of general geological database to make sure that the system is useful and security.
