Molds and dies are important equipments to produce various industrial products. In modern industry, about 60%~90% products are produced by molds, of which 60% are plastic parts.The research and development of the product is the core competitiveness of a mould enterprise.The new products can be developed much faster and better if the knowledge, which is currently considered as the asset of an enterprise, is put into the development of products. Meanwhile, knowledge assets management has become a new branch of enterprise management. Injection mould design is an innovative process based on the abundant experience and knowledge of experts.To support the design process, the generated or generating design knowledge in the enterprise must be refined and summarized systematically and timely; then the design knowledge which has been experienced through the manufacturing processes can be fully used, managed and maintained effectively, and also the designers can complete the design efficiently without errors, the design experiences would be calculated,the production cycle can be shortened, and the cost can be cut down.Finally, these can enhance the competency of the manufacturers in the industry.This paper analyzes the research status of the injection molding design knowledge and management system home and abroad, summarizes the existing deficiency of the research situation in knowledge management system.In order to improve this topic, the author went to mold enterprise for half a month for investigation, and picked up characteristics and status of the mould enterprise, discovered the existing problems of mold enterprise. The injection mold design knowledge has been studied after understanding the basic concept, molding principle, basic structure and design process of injection mold. In this paper, the classification, description methods and management mode of the injection molding design knowledge have been studied. The injection mold design knowledge can be divided into 4 types:text knowledge, calculation and checking equations, standard and injection mold examples.This paper studies injection mold description emphatically from the two aspects of injection molded parts and injection mold. According to the corresponding type of design knowledge, the management methods which including the mould encyclopedia, online calculation and checking, standard part library and injection mold case database etc, are proposed. The concept of cloud technology was introduced into mold enterprise, which helps construct the system.Based on different users and safety consideration and the injection knowledge was classified as public knowledge and private knowledge.According to the classification of injection mold design knowledge and its management, four modules involve mould encyclopedia module, online calculation and checking module, standard module and injection mold examples module,were put forward. Then, these modules were designed respectively and their design content contain the technology used in module, module function structure, realization process, and the relationship among various modules and between modules and databases.The standard databases and injection mold databases were designed, the function of four modules were implemented through programming Finally, some application examples of four modules function were given in the situation of every module in the platform proposed, with which structure and function of the system are presented more directly.
