The thesis paper calls for rational thinking on the mistakenly understood contemporary human value on environment by presenting the deteriorating ecological reality in western China, and draws a conclusion that it is necessary to establish a new type of ecological value. In the light of Western China Development, the paper tries to build a systematic ecological value by probing the origin and development of ecological value using the basic Marxist viewpoints and methodologies. Thus, the new Ecological Value proposed by the paper can hopefully provide theoretical support for the strategy of Western China Development and sustainability of China. The paper is composed of three parts. The first part begins the discussion by observing the deteriorating ecological facts in western China. These facts are the water resources crisis, the declining ecological function of forests, the recession of grassland, the deforestation, the economical drought caused by human being, and the drastic decrease of wild animals and plants in number. These problems are questioned and analyzed by the author. By rational retrospect on human-centered egoism in the aspect of the outlook on world, practice and value, the paper concludes that some mistakenly understood points of traditional values are:1. Making the satisfaction of human desire as the only criteria;2. The nature does not has value3. Natural resources are boundless and could be exploited limitlessly;By studying the facts, this part suggests that a new ecological value be established which proposes that human being should maintain a harmonious relationship with the nature. The second part is the key part of the paper. This part gains a lot of ecological materials by probing the roots of the thoughts of the Ecological Value. By stating and comparing the main views of human-centered and natural ecological values in modern western ecological value, the author broadens the discussion. By discussingand studying the views of classical Marxist writers on the relationship between human and the nature, the paper concludes the following revelations:1. The central view of Marxism on ecological value is to explain the meaning of the relationship between human being and the nature.2. Ecological environment is discussed in terms of human being participation Ecological environment doesn't mean the eternal nature without the existence of human being, but mean the part of nature that has meaning to the survival and development of human being.3. Between human being and the nature, there is not only existing the relationship of recognizing and being recognized, rebuilding and being rebuilt, but also the relationship of value that describes and evaluates the practical natural utility to the development of human being. Thus, in order to satisfy their own needs for survival and development, human being need to respect all ecological values, and thereafter, return the value to the whole ecological system. The so-called the Ecological Value is a philosophical term describing the relationship between human being and natural environment. It clarifies the significance of ecological environment to human being in their survival and development. It is an important means of measurement in the diversified value system of human society, and it is the ability owned by the nature to satisfy human being and their society. By analyzing the issues, the paper proves that the essence of ecological value is the harmonious relationship between human being and the nature. The paper finds out that the Ecological Value has four features. It exists commonly everywhere, it exists multi-dimensionally, its creation is related to human being's activities, and it can be realized by different means. To realize the Ecological Value, there are three ways, it should be supervised by public opinion, it should be supported legislatively, and it should be concerned morally. The third part studies the modern connotation of the Ecological Value. In the last part, the paper first discusses the devel...
