Shaanxi province is an important cradle of forestry, and it’s one of the key forestry provinces. Located in western China and dependent on heavy industry, Shaanxi has to deal with the ever inflaming contradictions between rapid economic development and the fragile ecological environment, which, to some degree, influence and restrict its sustainable development, especially sustainable forestry development. Therefore, it is urgent to study sustainable forestry development. In this paper, we use the concept and calculation method of ecological footprint, that is, the actual production methods and sustainable forest production method, and refer to Shaanxi Provincial Forestry Statistics and Chinese Forestry statistics so as to make a detailed analysis of forestry ecological footprint in Shaanxi Province from 2006 to 2014, which includes forestry production footprint, import and export forestry footprint, and its chronological change and features of its characteristics. At the same time, it uses ecological footprint per ten thousand yuan GDP to analyze the utilization of forest resources in Shaanxi Province. As is shown in the study, forestry ecological footprint are increasing year by year with ecological deficit and low utilizations of forests, so the sustainable development is not significant, especially forestry sustainable development. According to the given analysis, we give some suggestions on development mode and industrial structure. The following are the basic conclusions of this paper:1. From 2006 to 2014, the forestry production footprint in Shaanxi Province increased dramatically, about400%, which shows that people are more in need of forest products so as to increase the pressure to forest ecological system.2. From 2006 to 2014, both forestry import footprint and forestry export footprint in Shaanxi Province are decreasing, which may be explained the supply of local forestry products increase so that they are less dependent on the import of forestry products.3. From 2006 to 2014, the ecological carrying capacity has a surplus, while Million GDP ecological footprint shows a downward trend. Forestry ecological footprint is much less than the ecological carrying capacity, then the ecological carrying capacity has a surplus, which means developing forestry products has minor effect on forest system.
