The fuzzing and pilling performance, mechanism and influencing factors of Soybean Protein fabric have been studied in this dissertation in order to find the effective methods to improve its fuzzing and pilling performance .The soybean fiber, as the only chemical fiber developed by Chinese researchers has many fine performances and its fabric has lofty and smooth handle ,subdued luster and excellent moisture vapor transmission and drape and so on. However, Soybean Protein fabric has serious fuzzing and pilling problems, which restricts its further development in the market. So it is very important to improve the fuzzing and pilling performance.First of all, cotton fabric and polyester-cotton fabric were selected as the contrast specimens of Soybean Protein fabric .The experiment indicated that the pilling performance of Soybean Protein fabric was worse than cotton fabric but better than polyester-cotton fabric by standard photographs and pill curves. During the first period in Martindale tester, Soybean Protein fabrics began to appear pills fast. Meanwhile the procedure of pilling lasted long time and the pills dropped slowly. At the same time, we found the fuzzing performance of Soybean Protein knit fabric after laundering is worse than woven fabric by charactering fuzz distribution on fabrics using image analysis. Here projection microscopy, surface reflection ratio and image analysis were all used to measure the fuzzing of the fabric. The results indicated that image analysis method was convenient and had friendly appearances, so the results got by this man-machine method was more practical andvaluable.And then we described the characters of pilling periods including of fuzz formation, fuzz entanglement, pill growth and pill drop in the dry condition and showed the fuzz grow longer gradually in the laundering on the basis of previous theories and the mechanical properties of Soybean Protein fiber. The results indicated that the pilling mechanism of Soybean Protein fabrics was similar to that of the polyester fabrics in dry condition and the reason of fuzzing after laundering was due to the low cohesion force of the fiber.In addition, we investigated the influence of blend ratio, yarn twist and count and spinning system on the fuzzing and pilling properties and used orthogonal design and analysis to select the optimum factors .The result showed that blending with cotton fiber, increasing yarn twist properly and Sirospun spinning system could improve the fuzzing and pilling performance effectively under both dry and wet conditions for the Soybean Protein woven fabric. But for the knit fabric, only Sirospun spinning system could improve the fuzzing and pilling performance effectively.Finally, the Soybean Protein fabric was finished with ATP. The fuzzing and pilling property under both dry and wet condition of the treated woven fabrics was improved significantly .And at the same time the wrinkle resistance and tensile strength increased while breaking elongation and tearing strength decreased and its handle was also expected to improve.
