The main task for teacher education is transforming from quantity meeting to quality improving. Especially, with the proposing of teacher professionalism in recent years, the reforming direction and creative point in the teacher education in normal university is how to cultivate the professional teacher. Teaching skill is one of the important part in the teacher's profession skills. So every student who majors in chemistry education should accept the special training in order to get prepared for being an eligible teacher.Qualitative research had been used in this paper and introduced into the research field of chemistry teaching firstly. The research indicated that the formation of students' teaching skill was divided into three stages and the affecting factors for the first time. This research broke through the old models limited in teaching skill training in which the formation of teaching skill and affecting factors were neglected.The research objects were five college students majoring in chemistry, grading four from college of chemistry and chemical engineering in Hunan Normal University. The research had been carried out from April 2003 to May 2004. This is the main time for their teaching skill forming. The interviews were carried through in the period of teaching practice and later, observe and inquiry were carried out earlier.The research showed that the formation of teaching skill was divided into three stages: firstly, grade one to grade three in college, role recognizing; secondly, grade three to grade four, the role transforming; thirdly, grade four, the role experiencing. The affecting factors included two sides : interior factors, 1 the understand and devotion to the teacheroccupation, 2 their characters and interest, 3 the exercise and efforts; exterior factors, 1 The problem of cooperation in teaching theories and teaching practice, 2 in the imitational teaching, the environment, teachers and the time also were factors which influenced the formation of teaching skill, 3 the students who wanted to prepared for the examination of postgraduate admission had some difficulties in dealing with the distribution of time and energy, 4 communion and cooperation were needed among the college students, teachers and students in the middle school, 5 The teaching reform and the cultivation of teaching skills in normal university. From the research process and results, the paper put forward some suggestions for the cultivation of students' teaching skills and had a consideration for the problems needed be further researched.
