More and more people focus their attention on the research and development of CAPP technologies. But, in die &mould industry, the CAPP technologies were not got recognition as they should be. Presently, most of the processes of manufacturing die &mould are manually planned. It is not only time-consuming, but also obstructing the development of die &mould industry. In order to improve the production mode of die &mould industry, and make the production more informative and automated, a deep research on the correlated technologies of the CAPP for die & mould has been made and a injection molding CAPP system has been created.Based on the fabrication characteristics of die &mould and the cardinal principles of CAPP, the architecture of the CAPP system and the functional module are proposed. On the basis of philosophy of modularization design, this system can be easily maintained and extended. The research subject classifies the injection mold parts with Group Technology(GT) according to function, structure and process features of the injection mold parts. The injection mold parts classification and coding system has been established. It accomplishes the part information model building of the CAPP system and solves the part information describing and inputting problem. At the same time, it has active effect on plant supervision of die & mould factory. According to CAPP, the theory of database, data model, database design method have been researched, management technology of database and design mode of the open style database have been explored. Many kinds of process database have been designed according to functional requirement of the system. Standard process library and typical process library have been established.Finally, an injection mold CAPP system which applies the above theories has been developed for process planning of injection mold parts. The process of programming and a example are introduced in this paper.
