Injection mould parts are characteristics of complex structures, great variety, different shapes and small batch of production. The design of traditional mould technology employs weaving by hand, which leads to low efficiency and complicated processes, effecting on the production efficiency of the mould. The paper is proposed on the analysis of the structure and process characteristics of the mould parts. The CAPP technique is introduced into production process of the injection mould. For the injection mould, the topic of"Researching and Development of Injection mould CAPP System"is proposed. The paper includes the following works.Firstly, based on the grouping technology, the mould parts are classified into two types: directly molding parts and auxiliary molding parts. The auxiliary molding parts are classified to four types: mold plate, the class of ring and sleeve, the class of column, standard parts. Then the classified parts are encoded to build the classification encoding system, by which general structure and process information covering all structure and process characteristics within the same group of classified parts is drawn and made into the template.Secondly, this paper is intended to establish the structure and system of Client / Server data by using SQL Server database technology, and to build databases and data tables for managing process information. The overall structure and each functional modules of the CAPP system is designed according to the process characteristics of injection mould and the working principles of CAPP system. A system is designed in accordance with modular system design strategy. In this system, a visualized and friendly human-machine interactive interface is built by using Visual Basic 6.0 software; each functional module runs smoothly. The system design and the implementation process of software is also introduced in details, and an online help file is provided to help users master the use of the system quickly.Finally, Machining process database, machine tools database and manufacturing strategy database are built.PowerMill software is secondly developed by using Visual Basic 6.0 software, which could receive process design parameters of CAPP system and produce machine tools path and NC code automatically and semi-automatically.We could control and adopt the mould process experience data through CAPP system of injection mould. while we can check standard process data According to mold category or mold code,edit and save intrinsic process templates data or add new process templates,we also can make technics and processes of new mold pars through checking typical process templates of similar mold parts in the same classified group, and realize automatic machine programming.
