With the development at full speed of economy and increasing scale and range ofengineering action, people exploit natural resources extremely, as a result the speed ofdeterioration of the geological environment and frequency of the geological disaster areserious by and by. It is particularly important that how to confirm good and bad degree ofgeological environment according to a large number of investigation information. Thegeographical information system(GIS) offers a new research approach for geologicalenvironmental study because of its powerful function of space analysis and dateprocessing . This paper develops the research of geological environmental evaluation of typicalarea(faults and joints develop drastically) and discusses the combination of GIS andgeological environmental evaluation modelon the basis ofGIS software, whichadds a newtechnological means for the geologicalenvironmental assessment. The author summarizesthe formers' experience according to the geological environmental characteristic of thestudy area at first, sets up the factor system of geological environmental evaluation intypical location, establishes the rank standard. In the past, qualitative method is mainmeans that investigate the geological disaster and divide zones. In this thesis the authordiscussed the theory and method on quantitative appraisal of geological environment oftypical area. Some appraise factors are chosen on the basis of investigation on the spot,formers'work and suggestion of relevant experts, etc.; Each factor's weight is determinedby more scientific method; the author chooses fuzzy comprehensive assessment modelwith the weight established by analytic hierarchy process to estimate study area objectivelyand scientifically based on the discussion and analysis of the appraisal methods andattribute of factors'fuzzy and uncertainty in appraisal area. The author analyzes the geological environmental background in detail by combingthe typical study area of Fuzhou-Changle and chooses the main factors that influencegeological environment in study areas. Because of the advantage of Arc View 3.2 platform,the author sets up space figure database about typical area, attribute database that wasmanaged and realized by connecting outside database (Microsoft Access), which was usedby GIS through interface. Therefore, GIS realizes connection of figure and attribute and IIform space database. In view of no special geological environmental evaluation with faultof zone as key factor on the basis of GIS(including Fuzhou-Changle's faults ), author setsup special GIS database in the fault of the study area and utilizes GIS'function of spaceanalysis to appraise its impact on geological environment. The author classifies typical areas in Fuzhou-Changle into five classes: best, good,moderate, bad, and worse by the developed system. Results indicate the system thatcombines the appraisal model with GIS is feasible, reasonable, and practicable strongly,which will offers a new effect measure for local government department to protectgeological environment and prevent geological disasters.
