Textiles are good carriers for the bacteria. Due to the favorable conditions on textiles and the skin, the textiles can support the bacteria growth very well and the different bacteria are growing most rapidly, which influence the appearance of the textiles, reduce the mechanical property and bring odour. Some bacteria will do bad to people's health, result in dermatitis and other skin diseases, what's worse, they'll even kill the life. So the antibacterial textiles are made to inhibit the multiplication of the bacteria or kill them, so that protect the textiles themselves and the comfort & health care for the users.The history of the antibacterial is reviewed, and the current status about anti-bacteria processing method is introduced in summary. According to the developing trends of the antibacterial textiles, antibacterial fibers are laid emphasis on. The antibacterial effect that the textiles should obtain depends on the end-use of the products. In this paper, antibacterial knitted fabrics for underwear are studied, and Escherichia coil, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Candida albicans are the objects to be suppressed. The aim of the study is to apply chitin fiber with bacteria resisted performance to the wearing knitted fabrics efficiently so as to meet the requirement of consumers. The research work focuses onthe thermal-wet comfort, the wearing properties, antibacterial effect and antibacterial durability of the chitin blended knitted fabrics.A new type of textile fiber is introduced particularly, that is viscose-chitin fiber with anti-bacteria performance. It can blend with other fibers such as cotton,acrylic. The jesery, interlock and double layer in viscose-chitin yarn, viscose-chitin /cotton blended yarn and acrylic-chitin/cotton blended yarn respectively are laid stress on in this paper. After the fabrics are bleached and dyed, bearing strength, the abrasive resistance, pilling resistance, rigidity and softness, air permeability, warmth retention property, moisture property, moisture transferability, moistening property are measured.A synthetic evaluation of thermal-wet comfort of the 10 fabrics was conducted by means of gray clustering analysis. The conclusions are as follows:50/50 viscose-chitin/cotton blended fabrics in jesery and double layer have the best comprehensive thermal-wet comfort, followed by 100% viscose-chitin fabrics in jesery and interlock, with acrylic-chitin/cotton fabrics in interlock and double layer the worst as well as 100% cotton fabric. The results show us that the material and construct of the fabric have a great effect on the thermal-wet comfort. Among them, 50/50 acrylic-chitin/cotton blended fabric is the worst, but in comparison with 100% cotton fabric, their thermal-wet comfort can totally meet therequest of underwear knitted fabrics in practice.In addition, the antibacterial tests with shake-flask method are carried on with some fabrics. This method is used to test the bacteria resisted performance of viscose-chitin blended fiber. Considering the underwear will be washed often, we make the antibacterial tests with 5 fabrics to observe the antibacterial effect after decades of washing. The test results show that:1. As for Escherichia coil, Finished fabric without dyeing, dyeing fabric but without washing and dyeing fabric with washing for 20, 50 times respectively all have excellent antibacterial effect and the discrepancy of bacteria resistance rate with the comparison sample is higher than 26%, which exceeds the antibacterial standard of our country.2. The finished fabric and the dyeing fabric but without washing have almost the same bacteria resistance rate, which indicates the finishing process has no effect on the bacteria resisted performance of viscose-chitin blended fabrics.3. With the increase of washing time, bacteria resistance rate of viscose-chitin blended fabrics decreases, but they still have distinct antibacterial effect.4.
