With the development of computer and NC technology, the PC based NC system is widely used in the Non-traditional machining field. The Wire Cut Electrical Discharge Machining(WEDM) system used now are mostly based on ISA-bus and DOS operation system(OS). But ISA-bus and DOS OS has been gradually given out by PC, so compatibility of these control systems is poor. Windows OS holds opening system structure, CNC system developed on the basis of it has a better opening, maintenance and extension. With popularity of the Windows OS, it has been commonly recognized that develop an economical CNC system based on Windows OS platform and PCI-Bus. PCI is a local bus which can provide a high performance bus to the CPU and peripheral equipment. In this thesis, by combining the PCI-bus and NC WEDM, a WEDM system based on the PCI-bus and Windows OS is put forward. In the hardware designing, PCI interface is realized by using the CH365 chip. Communication and control of the WEDM system are fulfilled by using the 89C51RD2 microcontroller with a FLASH memory. The drive program and the system managing function of PC are completed, the management and inspection of slave computer are realized by using Windows Driver Model (WDM) and VC developing environment.
