A new method with chemiluminescence (CL) of the morin-potassium permanganate system is proposed by flow-injection. The new CL behavior is based on oxidation reaction of morin with potassium permanganate in sulfuric acid medium. The possible CL mechanism in the system is also discussed. This paper presents a series of sensitive FI method utilizing a CL system of morin with potassium permanganate in sulfuric acid for the determination of ampicillin sodium and Benzylpenicillin Sodium in Pharmaceutical Preparations. The present work aims to develop the detection methods for these substances and to spread the use of the CL technique. This paper consists of three parts.Part One A review on CL analysis and on the development of the acidic potassium permanganate system and the determination of β -lactam antibiotic in Pharmaceutical PreparationsChapter One A review on CL analysisThis chapter introduces the basic principles and the instrumentation of CL analysis. Mainly it summarizes the common CL system and their analytical applications, and vistas the newly developing techniques and further trends of CL method.(Chapter Two The development of the acidic potassium permanganate system in sulftiric acidic mediumIn this chapter, The development of the acidic potassium permanganate system in Pharmaceutical Preparations in ten years is reviewed, and 65 references are cited. Chapter Three The development of the determination of β -lactam antibiotic in Pharmaceutical Preparationsall kinds of methods including spectrophotometry, fluorometry, electrochemical methods and CL methods for the determination of β- lactam antibiotic in Pharmaceutical Preparations in recent years are reviewed, and 57 references are cited.Part Two A new method with Chemiluminescence(CL) of themorin-potassium permanganate system in sulfuric acidic mediumA new method with chemiluminescence (CL) of the morin-potassium permanganate system is proposed by flow-injection. The new chemiluminescence behavior is based on oxidation reaction of morin with potassium permanganate in sulfuric acid medium. The chemiluminescent intensity of the morin-potassium permanganate system was found to be highest when the concentration of morin, potassium permanganate and sulfuric acid was 1.0 × 10-4 mol/L, 4.0 × 10-4 mol/L and 0.3 mol/L, respectively. The particular chemiluminescent system could tolerate such distinct acidic environments that it was utilized for detecting many compounds that are stable in acidic solutions.Part Three The application of the morin-potassium permanganate system in sulfuric acidic mediumChapter One Flow-Injection Analysis of Ampicillin Sodium with Inhibited Chemiluminescence MethodA simple, rapid and accurate flow-injection inhibitory chemiluminescence (CL) method has been investigated for the determination of ampicillin sodium. The method is based on the chemiluminescence inhibition of the morin-potassium permanganate system by hydrolysate of ampicillin sodium in sulfuric acid medium. The proposed procedure allows quantitation of ampicillin sodium in the range 10.0 mg/L-100.0 mg/L with correlation coefficients 0.9995 (n = 7). The detection limit is 2.7 mg/L and the relative standard deviation is 0.8 % (n = 11) at 50.0mg/L ampicillin sodium. The ampicillin sodium in injections is measured and the results agree well with the standard method of pharmacopoeia. The recoveries of 99.1 % -102.0 % were obtained. The possible inhibitory CL mechanism in the system is also discussed.Chapter Two Determination of Benzylpenicillin Sodium by Flow Injection Chemiluminescence MethodBenzylpenicillin sodium and Ampicillin sodium are β-lactamic antibiotics, with a basic structure of two pharmaceutical preparations is different side chain's RCO-. A novel chemiluminescence (CL) method with flow injection was development for the determination of benzylpenicillin sodium with the morin-potassium permanganate system in sulfuric acid medium. It was based on the significant decreasing of CL intensity of the system byhydrolysa...
