With the development of plastic industry, the desire of making technical progress in plastic injection mold design and manufacturing becomes more and more thirsty. As a result, the appearance of CAD has made drastic change in the method of conventional plastic injection mold design and manufacturing. To combine mold design with CAD, it can efficiently reduce the cost, shorten the period, and enhance the precision and performance.Realizing the standardization of die is the precondition of the introduction of the CAD software into plastic injection mold design. Decade years experience proves that the standardization of die, including the standardization of mold bases, parts, structure and technical parameter, is the only way to develop die manufacturing. Making use of standard mold basess and standard parts sufficiently, which are the two most important portions of standardization jobs, can cut down the workload of mold designers, reduce the jobs of calculation, decrease the risk in the period of die manufacturing, and simplify the parts provision. So how to realize the standardization of mold bases and parts is significant to plastic injection mold industry.What's more, the application development of the CAD software is the key of exerting their efficiency. Much world famous CAD software has been introduced into our country already, covering with most provinces and considering universal rules of product design, which are excellent at practical utility. But they don't adapt to every condition because of different requests in product design and dissimilar resources and circumstance of different companies. In order to make the purchased CAD software to fit for the product characteristics and specialize the process of product design, we must carry out the application development, which has becomean urgent affair of the generalization of CAD system at higher level.Based on Pro/Engineer, using its powerful parametric molding function, taking Pro/Program and Pro/Toolkit as its developing tools, and combined with variable assembly and ADO database system, this paper makes a study of the pivotal technology of the structure CAD of the injection mold, and sets up a standard mold base and part system which can realize automatic searches and molding.Users can conveniently search the needed mold base, assembly graphics and data from the standard mold base system. At the same time, users can also establish their special standard mold base through inputting their own design parameters. When they want to use standard mold bases and parts, users just need open up the corresponding module, select the type, choose the series and designate the specification, then the system will automatically query the database to get the relevant data to carry out parametric design of the stand part, and build geometrical restrict to get the new dimension assembly graphics. In this way, it realizes variable assembly design and solves the problem of how to deal with numerous data, which makes the job of searches and molding of the standard mold base and part conveniently.
