The design of panel drawing die surface is the key process of panel drawing die, and it is also the key factor on the development of panel products. Most of the shapes of panel products are formed by one drawing process, which can be considered as a continuous contacting process of sheet metal and die. Therefore, the contacting surface, that is, the die surface serves the determining factor of auto panel's final form. The basic process, features and key technology of the design based on knowledge engineering were discussed in this paper. The theories related to intelligent die surface design were introduced in this thesis. After the analysis of panel and its relation with die design process, the author proposes an intelligent approach for panel die surface design, and realizes the optimization of it. Depending on the existent experiences and rules, the author realizes the distribution, guidance and control of products function information at every design step by combining the KBE with 3D modeling software. The binder design is a important content of panel drawing die surface design, so several types of binder, three methods (line, section, edge) which create the outer contour lines and three corresponding methods to create binder were proposed. The author develops the module of binder design based on the UG software platform which can realize the intellectual design. Combined with the FASTAMP software, the design results could be analyzed and optimized until it reach a best condition. Still, a method which ensures slinking smoothly between the addendum and part was proposed and the corresponding design module of sectional line design was developed. This module realizes the function of panel drawing die surface design which integrative press direction with binder design, die section design and addendum design.
