With the fast development of computer science and the continuous increasingrequirements of the technology of CNC, the functions of numerical controlledmachine are progressive. At the same time, the CNC system becomes massive andcomplicated. Therefore, new problems in CNC technology teaching, especially theteaching of fault diagnosis and maintenance, have been put forward.Numerical controlled machine tool is the main equipment in manufacturingindustry. Manufacturing industry informationizion requires the higher reliability andmaintainability of them. To satisfy these requirements, either MTBF (Mean Timebetween Failures) is lengthened or MTTR (Mean Time to Repair) is shortened.At present,the teaching of fault diagnosis and maintenance occupies a very littleproportion in CNC teaching, and is not systemic. Thus, a CNC teaching platformbased on status monitoring technology and fault diagnosis has been brought forwardin this paper.With a backbone using status monitoring technology and open CNC system, ateaching platform of CNC based on status monitoring and fault diagnosis has beencreated. Based on the on-line monitored function, the teaching of status monitoringtechnology can be realized on this platform. On the other hand, all the typical signalscan be controlled and measured by the upper software through the hardware of thespecial I/O ports. Thus, the experiments of the settings of the numerical controlledmachine signals and the obviating of the malfunction can be done on this platform. Atthe same time, the system of examinations and automatic grading has been designed.In this paper, a CNC teaching platform based on status monitoring and faultdiagnosis has been studied and designed, and practice teaching of status monitoringtogether with electric fault diagnosis and maintenance have been realized too. As aresult, students can master these technologies authentically. By the way ofintroducing advanced technologies into teaching, the level and quality of teachinghave been enhanced.
