Cold roll forming is an important field of sheet metal forming processing. Cold roll forming steel are widely used in industry In consideration of the mechanism of cold roll forming is not clear, usually its research can only be settled under simple sectional equations and substantive assumed conditions. With the finite element technique come to maturity, commercial finite element software was used to simulate the roll forming process so as to study the forming process and give some guideline for practice. Designing a AXIS70 cold roll forming line is offered by France DIRICKX Company and carried out by institute of mechanic-electrical engineering of NCUT. This paper investigate this forming process with finite element simulation and experiments, hope to discovery some method used for cold roll forming simulation and put it into practice to enhance the understanding of cold roll forming.Some features of cold roll formed steel and research progress of cold roll forming theory and finite element simulation used in cold roll forming simulation was introduced in this paper. To give emphasis to introduce some finite element basic theory and summary the elastic-plastic finite element theory based on this paper.In this paper, the finite element model was created in Msc.Marc according to the mechanism of cold roll forming and deforming elastic-plastic macro deforming finite element theory. Marc is used to predict longitudinal strain distributions predicted by simulations, at the same time, the deformation of sheet geometry and forming force can also be simulated during and after the process. From the simulation the author find some edge wave occurring in the edge of sheet caused by the excessive longitudinal strain and give some improvements on this sectionCold roll forming process on this section is generally successful through the comparison of simulation results and test data The roll forming line is on production and France company is satisfied with the products The validity of this model is proved further.
