Free formaldehyde, released by wood based panel, is a main source which pollutes the indoor environment. It has already proved that if the density of formaldehyde is excess, the health of mankind will be seriously damaged. This situation has already caused the high value of world scope. According to the Europe standard (BS EN 717-2-1995: Wood Based Panels-Determination Of Formaldehyde Release-Part 2: Formaldehyde Release By The Gas Analysis Method), the thesis designed and made the fast testing device for defining Formaldehyde emission, which can be ranked beside the same kind in the world.The device was composed of temperature control sub-system, press control sub-system, humidity control sub-system, time-sharing collection sub-system, real-time monitoring sub-system, database sub-system. It adopts Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) which is suitable for industrial situation, and was real-time monitored and under control by computer. The device is well established for its fast speed of response, higher precision, and powerful capability of real-time and flexible operations. Compared with the climate chamber, the period of determination is reduced from 3-28 days to 4 hours. There is no report about the fast testing device for defining Formaldehyde emission that is made up of computer and PLC. The device not only can fill a gap of fast determination of formaldehyde emission, but also provide the examination equipment and new examination method to national departments of the quality supervision of panel and the national legal departments of inspection and quarantine. At the same time, it can provide the equipment of quality testing or make the relational testing standard.
