In this paper, the remote monitoring system for wood drying is viewed as one of the most important research directions of control technology in wood drying because it, using the computer and network technique, makes the process of wood drying much less dependant on the operator's experience, more stable and accurate, which is of great significance in guaranteeing quality, reducing energy cost, shortening time as well as raising productivity. The concept of the remote monitoring system for wood drying is put forward for the first time in this paper and its operation principle is demonstrated clearly in order to lay a foundation for the future further development. The system composes three levels of control devices of different functions, i.e. the single-chip, the main computer and the remote computer, which can work respectively or coordinately together. The data acquisition system mainly consists of single-chip, which is made by the lab, and sensors, which are selected for detecting the temperature and moisture content. The single-chip will transfer the data to the main computer asynchronously and serially after data acquisition is done. And the data traffic between the main computer and the remote computer is to be through WAN, using Client/Server programming style based on TCP.The programming software, LabVIEW is used to simulate two dry kilns to test the system. And the result testified that the system can work stably and the data acquisition and traffic are quick and accurate enough.
