Along with the development of computer technology, the method of FEM (Finite Element Method) is used to the analysis and calculation of engineering comprehensively, which occupies an important part in Computer Aided Engineering (CAE). Some finite element analysis software has been inputted into the practical project applications. Contact problem is a kind of altitudinal non-linear problem, FEM is the most effectual method to solve contact problem. It is very complex and there are many factors determining the correctness of a contact problem analysis. Finite element analysis software has become the most important part of computer aided design system.The drill chuck is a kind of serialization products. Although the main difference is using occasion, work situation, they have the comparability in the entire structure. If we establish the analyzing model seriatim, the repeating job is very large and the developing cycle is extended. In order to avoid repeating job in the most extent and improve efficiency of design, using the idea of structure parametric design. Based on Visual Basic.net and APDL, the FEA drill chuck model can be easily created by adjust several geometric parametric and the process of FEA is automatically executed. This paper discusses the affections of different parameters for the stress and clamp capability of drill chuck. The high efficiency drill chuck strength analysis system can help designer develop new products.This thesis consists of five chapters. In chapter one, the author introduces the work theory and kinds of drill chuck, and analyzes the research background as well as the existing methods in this field, then presents significance of this study. In chapter two, the traits of software-ANSYS and its parametric design language APDL are introduced; the process and functions of parameterized program of drill chuck are elaborated. The finite element parametric modeling and calculating for drill chuck is established. Chapter three is introduction about the structure strength analysis and clamp capability for drill chuck and discussion about the influence of different parameters for it. In chapter four, the reality of system and development tool are introduced, data from real drill chuck models are applied in the program to validate its feasibility and reliability. Chapter five summarizes the research work, point out the main achievement of this thesis and establishes a further vision on the solution to existing problems.
