Since the 21 st century, the rapid development of mold industry puts forward higher requirement for the development of mould, in such a situation, in order to improve the efficiency of mold design and ensure a strong competitiveness in the fierce competition, mold enterprises need to master the advanced mold design technology. Meanwhile, the trend towards injection mold standardization making the method of establishing standard parts library widely used, it also reduce mold development cycle greatly. A large number of foreign researchers studied the method of applying secondary development technology of CATIA to mold design, but mold industry and the standardization of injection mold in China behind the developed countries, the method of applying secondary development of CATIA to mold design still need to be further studied and improved.The development system is established on the CATIA platform based on CATIA secondary development technology, aiming at improving the efficiency of the injection mold design. The system design including the establishment of mold standard parts library and development of mold parametric design system, in order to mold conduct parametric modeling, we use Visual Basic to create a system interface, in terms of the preparation of the program code, use the CATIA in the macro recording feature, modified and edited appropriately to achieve the secondary development of CATIA, The users input parameters of the template can complete parametric design of mold, while the mold parts can also be quickly called.Firstly, the paper discussed the current situation of the development of the standardization of the mold and the mold industry, explained the prospects and significance of the research,made a brief introduction of the concept the research involved, such as, standard parts library,parametric design, secondary development technology and so on. This paper also introduced the specific method of the development of CATIA by using of Visual Basic, including the reference of libraries and the method of recording macros. It described the process of parameters of the mold design, including parametric modeling analysis, the establishment of the parametric model,and the overall mold assembly process, the constraints and interference analysis test during assembling, elaborated the method to establish mold standard parts library, made an analysis and dissection of the structure of standard parts library. Finally, it described the implementation method of the system, including the establishment of man-machine interface, the linking methodof HMI and CATIA, referenced CATIA type in VB, start CATIA by using VB, discussed the system implemented VB source code, such as, the interface code, the program code, modeling code.The injection mold parametric design system researched by the topic fused the CATIA parametric modeling capabilities and VB programming languages and other technologies,achieved the rapid generation of mold model, improve the efficiency of mold design, reduce duplication of effort and reduce development costs.
