Cyclone separator is a kind of equipment that uses rotary motion of gas-solid two-phase fluid to make the solid particle separated from the gas flow by centrifugal force. It has a lot of advantages, such as simple structure, conveniently maintained, high temperature and pressure resisted, low manufacturing cost and so on. It has widely used in the fields of environmental protection, powder, petroleum, chemistry, metallurgy and material. All these let the study of cyclone separator paid attention by the research personnel.The application of cyclone separator has a long history. There are great difficulty in theoretical research of cyclone separator, and the theory develop slowly because the gas flow with solid particles in the cyclone separator is a kind of complex three-dimensional revolving turbulent flow with two-phase separation motion and many physical phenomena including interaction between gas and solid, coherence, adsorption and static electricity. The process of the traditional design of cyclone separator is choosing the structure pattern and dimensions of cyclone separator by experience firstly according to the given operation condition and performance index and secondly calculating the separation efficiency and pressure loss by half empirical formulae and revising the dimension of cyclone separator according to the calculating results. It has large blindness in the process of design.The numerical simulation on the cyclone separator has carried out by using the commercial CFD software-FLUENT in this thesis. After choosing the suitable program of numerical simulation, the velocity and pressure field of gas phase, paths and classification efficiency of particles and separation efficiency of cyclone separator under several circumstances have been simulated.
