Green environment and green printing have been the theme of current printing industry. But at present, the solvents in the plastic gravure printing ink which in common use are the poisonous benzene solvents, that are harmful to environment and operator's health. With the development of continuable world economy, the development trend of gravure printing is using the nonpoisonous environmental protection type of gravure ink.The paper expatiated how to develop non-benzene plastic gravure surface printing ink, discuss the basic principle of choosing the solvents, resins and pigments, that are the components of the gravure printing ink, and through the experiments confirm the appropriate components of the printing ink. Through testing various materials and printing ink sample, the paper optimized the formulation of the printing ink and computed the costing.Printability is an important standard of weighing the quality of the printing ink, that influences of the printing quality directly, and the components of ink make important influence of the printability. Through altering some components of the ink, the paper tested the primary printability of the ink, such as the viscosity, surface tension, dryness and adhesive force etc, studied the influence of the components on the printability, confirmed the optimized the formulation, and finally compared the printing ink sample with the toluene printing ink. The test results indicated that the printability of the printing ink sample basically consists with the toluene printing ink.
