Polystearylmethacrylate (C-PSMA) was prepared were synthesized by suspension polymerization process, using stearylmethacrylate as monomer. The effects of polymerizing temperature , amounts of initiator, amounts of crosslinker and kinds of crosslinker on the properties of oil absorption resins were investigated. The structure of the oil absorption resins was studied. And the absorption-extraction-resorption process of it was discussed. The polymerizing process and the factors influencing the polymerization were firstly studied. The recipe and operation conditions of the oil absorption resins in this research were optimized as follows: temperature at 75℃, time for 6h, and dispersing agent content of 0.5wt% and stearylmethacrylate:crosslinker: initiator =100: 0.3:0.7. The oil absorbency of C-PSMA to chloroform, toluene and kerosene could reach 4.74g /g, 2.53g/g, and 2.11g/g respectively. The kinetics of the controlled-release for C-PSMA was also studied. The results indicated that the crosslinking degree was the key factor that determined the absorptive and controlled-release properties of C-PSMA.The structures and thermal properties of C-PSMA were determined by FTIR, DSC and TG. C-PSMA had good stability and that C-PSMA using BDDA as crosslinking agent decomposed at 269.0°C was lower than C-PSMA using DVB as crosslinking agent. It showed that C-PSMA using DVB as crosslinking agent constructed proper three dimensional network structure. The crystalline of C-PSMA with various DVB contents is different. Finally, the extraction-resorption process of the oil absorption resins was studied. According to the experimental results, the resin recovery ratio reached more than 88%.In addition, the oil absorbency decreased a little and most oil absorption resin can maintain more than 87% of initial oil absorbency.
