The development of the synthesis and application of high oil-absorption resins have an important practical significance for environment protection. Three high oil-absorption resins were synthesized by suspension polymerization and the factors affected the properties of oil-absorption resins were investigated.Low crosslinking oil-absorption resins were prepared by Fe3O4 modified by oleic acid and monomer(methyl methacrylate, styrene, lauryl methacrylate, hexadecyl methylacrylate) with PVA as dispersant and BPO as initiator. The magnetic composite resins can be recovered after conveniently and rapidly absorbing oil by magnetic separation techniques. The effects of the monomer ratio, cosslinker, initiator, dispersant agent on oil absorptivity of resin and defined optimum reaction condition were studied. The results showed that interior network and hydrophobic groups played an important role on oil-absorption properties. The highest oil absorptivity of the resin was 15.5 g/g in toluene and 11g/g in gasoline. According to the experimental results, water distillation was testified to be effective method and the oil recovery ratio reached more than 95%.Due to general oil-absorption resins didn't display satisfactory absorption of long carbon-chain oil, inert porogenic agent was introduced into suspension polymerization system, which was expected to enlarge pore structure inside resin and enhance hydrophobic force of resin respectively. The results showed that absorption of modified resins on long carbon-chain oil was increased greatly with ethyl acetate and the gasoline absorption reached 27g/g.
