In the grinding process, the vibration caused by the unbalance of the grinding wheel, which has an important influence, seriously restricts the surface quality and the precision's enhancement. Therefore, maintaining the grinding wheel balance is an important measure in guaranteeing and enhancing the grinding quality. The project is originated from the ShanDong Province Funds Item. To solve the balance precision of the grind wheel in the grinding process, a cheap and simple intelligentized semi-automatic abrasive wheel balance system is developed, which is based on the single-chip technology.Systematic studies are carried on the following aspects: the balance technology of grinding wheels, the unbalance value identification theory and the balance system designing including the software and the hardware designing. The theoretic analysis is made on the vibration caused by the unbalance of the grinding wheel. Mathematic model is established which relates the first supports and the unbalance value of the grinding wheel.A least square model to identification unbalance value of grinding wheels is established. Typical formulas are induced for calculating unbalance value and phase. The experimental results show that the new method proposed can effectively restrain the effect of measurement error and greatly increase the precision.A measurement and control system is developed for identification and balance calculation. The system is based on the single-chip technology. First, it tests the vibration signal during the rotation of the grinding wheel. Second, the CPU processes the signal data according to the scheduled arithmetic and calculates the results. Last, stop the grinder and carry the balance block within the grinder through the man-power to the balance revision point. This system is simple and inexpensive. The experimental results show that this system could reduce the vibration caused by the unbalance of the grinding wheel effectively.
