This paper introduces the principle and functions of a free generatrix grinding wheel modification machine based on PMAC motion controller. A new technique is developed by combining the grinding wheel modification technique with numerical control technology. This new generatrix modification technique is roundly introduced by introducing the design and function of the core parts of numerical control system, such as control software etc. The experiments prove that this equipment satisfies the precision and efficiency request completely.The control system adopts open style numerical control system, the main control part chooses common personal computer, based the open style system foundation, the numerical control system is developed with the aid of the PMAC motion controller. The numerical control system hardware shaping principle is, in satisfies the engine tool's function and the precision request premise, guaranteed a higher reliability and compatibility. The engine tool numerical control system hardware includes: Spindle drive motor, servo drive equipment, control core-PMAC, the personal computer.The PLC program is corresponding with the function on the controllingpanel .the program can be first edited in PEWIN32Pro ,and then downloaded to PMAC card to catty out the function on the panel. The PLC program can inspect the input of analog date and digital date ,setup output, send message and inspect parameters of moving ,just like host's doing ,so it's very useful in changing plus , starting or stopping the movement.User application software includes three parts: user interface application of PC, communication driver of upper-lower computer and PLC program which can monitor all kinds of input and output in PMAC. Communication driver will be developed by Pcomm32 and Pmac.dll provided by Delta Tau corporation; PLC program can be complied in PEWIN32Pro, then can be downloaded to PMAC card; User interface application will be developed by Visual C++6.0, based on dynamic link library Pmac.dll to compile application module. Pmac.dll is a dynamic link library which is composed of more than 200 functions, and it includes all communication methods between PC and PMAC. Using Visual C++ to transfer these functions can accomplish data exchange between PC and PMAC, and the control of machine tool could be realized.
