Grinding processing is playing a very important role in modern processing technologies. It belongs to one of the fine machining methods. Its purpose is to enhance the surface quality of the work-pieces machined so that they can be adapt to the requirement when mounted or be the base of the fine machining coming next. So usually people hope grinding processing had better reach higher precision. However, it is well known that vibration which cannot be avoided will occur when rotary machines are working. As for grinding machine which is also one kind of rotary machines, the vibration can be greater. When the vibration amplitude exceeds a certain limit, it will affect the surface quality of the work-pieces; the direct result is that the surface roughness is higher than before. Therefore, measures must be taken to deal with this situation.The grinding wheel is made of abrasives which are fixed together by adhesives, it contains pores and susceptible to the influence of humidity, and mass distribution in it is uneven. The state of the grinding wheel when rotating can be affected if the wheel’s center of mass and spindle are not in a straight horizontal line, i.e. the spinning grinding wheels are not balanced. So the direct result is the increasing of the vibration amplitude which causes the decreasing of the surface quality. If the unbalanced state lasts long, it will cause the low processing efficiency and also shorten the service life of the machine. In addition, static balancing was often used to balance the grinding wheel before, but the wheel needed to be disassembled every time, and process is very tedious. At the same time, workers must have high technology and much more experience when using the static balancing method. The whole process can take a long time and is inefficient as well.Therefore, it is necessary to develop a device which can balance the grinding wheel online dynamically without the need of removing the wheel from the grinding machine and the high technology of workers; it can complete the work of the grinding wheel balancing quickly. Given this above, design of control system for grind wheel balancing based on STM32F417 IGT not only can solve the unbalance of the grinding wheel, but also can solve the other problems of grinding machine. The system is divided into three parts: the acquisition part, control part, execution part. The main function of acquisition part is providing datum to control part to make decisions about what to do next through the vibration sensor and hall sensor gathering the vibration acceleration signal and the rotating speed signal of the wheel. The control part including the design of hardware and software is the core of the system; its function is processing the data gathered by acquisition part and outputting the driving signal to the balancing head. The main function of execution part is adjusting the quality distribution of balancing head, grinding wheel and spindle system according to the driving signals so that the grinding wheel can reach balance dynamically.
