Melt pump assisted polymer extrusion flourished in the polymer processing. With their particular merits such as easy pressure raising and flow fluctuation eliminating effect, the extruder system with melt pump process nearly all the thermoplastic resins. Melt pumps are used in a myriad of application including palletizing, sheet extrusion, pipe extrusion, blown film, extrusion coating, sectional material extrusion, continuous blow molding.Based on the former research by other predecessors, the paper provides a set of integrated calculative formulas and data which can solve the structural parameter and performance parameter of melt pump and computer aided design system for melt pump is developed.The first characteristic of the computer aided design system is operating easily, efficient and it can solve the parameter of the main parts of melt pump. The VB programming in the system can solve the following problems including optimizing cylindrical gear parameter based on the displacement of melt pump, solving the structural parameter of cylindrical gears of melt pump, Strength calculation of gear tooth and gear shaft, solving the performance parameter of melt pump, Structural parameter optimization of spiral seal, solving the structural parameter of spiral seal, leakage test of spiral seal, solving bush bearing clearance of melt pump, solving the structural parameter of relief groove of bush bearing, solving the temperature rise of lubricating melt in the bush bearing.The second characteristic is that the computer aided design system can complete the parametric design of the main parts of melt pump and realize the automation of the three-dimensional modeling of gear shaft, spiral seal, bush bearing.The research effort and the computer aided design system for melt pump in the paper which can shorten the design cycle of melt pump help simplify the modeling process and improve the modeling efficiency, and evidently improve the work efficiency in the confirmation of technical parameter and the overall structural design of melt pump.
