| Based on the research of ecological factors as well as ecosystem structure, process and function, the process of ecological functional division is to determine the ecological regionalization of the research region according to certain principles, methods and index system. The objective of it is to provide a geographic frame for the ecosystem information, clarify the ecological functions, reveal the cause of regional ecological problems, put forward the improvement direction and mission, provide decision making basis for the resource exploitation and environmental protection, serve the improvement measures on the regional ecological and environmental protection, and accelerate the sustainable development of resource, environment and socioeconomic situation.Eco-environmental sensitivity analysis and environmental service function significance evaluation are the necessary steps and basic work of ecological functional division. Dealing with the study of Chongming Island and applying the theories of landscape ecology and regionalization, the paper analysed the spatial division of its ecological features, socioeconomic factors, eco-environmental sensitivity and ecological service function significance with the help of 3S. Based on the result, the differences and similarities of various regions in eco-environmental sensitivity and ecological service function significance have been revealed. Major tasks of ecological conservation and construction was also defined according to the eco-environmental situation, major eco-environmental problems and dominant ecological service functions of various regions. The reserarch results provide scientific basis for the eclogical functional division.
