The pile of mine tailings devours a great deal of available land and destroys the ecosystem. In addition, the tailings are the major source of heavy metal pollution. For the recovery and reconstruction of mine, it is important to know the release of heavy metals in environment.The tailing of witherite in Chengkou county of Chongqing city was the target of this investigation. Keeping cleanly of groundwater was the aim of protecting for environment. To know the releasing law of Ba2+ in tailing well, experiments were performed by marinating and leaching the tailing. In order to guide the disposition of witherite tailing, we analyzed the discrepancy of the Ba2+ releasing in different factors or under different conditions. The marinating experiment shows: Influence level on the mass rate of lixiviating is: Time>pH> Liquid-solid ratio, Influence level on the concentration of the lixiviated water is: Liquid-solid ratio>Time>pH; The pH value is closer to 7 under acid condition Ba is lixiviated much more, so when we protect the environment from Ba2+ pollution, the key is the time and the combine of water with tailing, anytime we do the job for keeping the tailing dryness is availability and necessary. The leaching experiment shows: During the 30 days of the leaching time, the rule of the lixiviated Ba2+ is a"Fast rise, Rapid drop, Slow rise"course. The after 10 days slow rise is well according the binomial"y = 0.0057x2 - 0.1079x + 10.317, R2 = 0.9967", as the time goes, concentration of the lixiviated water comes up slowly. It tell us that leaching has a more Ba2+ lixiviated than marinating. Unified the actual situation of the mining area and the results analyzed in the experiment, also used the experience of groundwater and surface water facility which in the garbage burying field for reference, we designed the tailing house. Based on the understanding of the actual situation in Chengkou county, advanced the feasible methods of comprehensive utilization of tailing. Conclusions of this investigation could help the local people programming the mining production, and give scientific advices to the administrator.
