With the development of economy and society,the mining industry has gradually evolved into a basic business for the development of the national economy.The amount of generated solid waste is very huge during the production and operation of the mine.And most of solid waste is piled up in the form of tailings ponds for using again,which brings many problems in the scientific management of tailings and effective environmental protection.In recent years,the government and company have completed a lot of fruitful work in the safe operation of tailings ponds and environmental governance,which makes that the operating situation of the tailings pond tends to stabilize.There is no denying that the tailings pond is still the most serious danger source in the production and operation of mining enterprises,and it is extremely easy to cause safety accidents,environmental problems and geological disasters.The stability of the tailings pond dam is the most critical key for affecting the safety of the tailings pond.This manuscript studies a tailings pond(referred to as Jinchuan tailings pond)that is located on the Gobi Beach in Jinchuan District,Jinchang City,Gansu Province and uses the comprehensive research method combining theoretical analysis,on-site investigation and numerical calculation.The simulated analysis and research evaluation on the stability of Jinchuan tailings dam were conducted.The main work results are as follows.(1)The relationship between tailing disposal,tailing pond types,tailing dam structure and stability,safety accidents,and environmental protection has been analyzed and summarized by collecting and sorting out a large number of research results on tailing pond engineering by domestic and foreign scholars,and main reasons for accidents in tailings ponds of our country are determined.It is concluded that the stability of tailings dams is directly influenced by the method of construction dam and the basic engineering properties of tailings sands.(2)The lithological characteristics of the dam located at Jinchuan tailings pond are determined by analyzing data from engineering geological reports,field survey tests,and indoor geotechnical tests.And the basic engineering properties are obtained such as tailings sand particle grading,permeability,and seismic liquefaction.The qualitative judgments have been made in the manuscript.(3)The landslide stability calculation software GEO5 is employed to analyze the anti-sliding stability of the Jinchuan tailing reservoir 1-6 dam under normal operation,flood operation,and special operation conditions,respectively.The calculated stability coefficient values are compared with the standard values stipulated by the national tailings pond design specification,and the stability of the Jinchuan tailings pond dam is comprehensively evaluated based on the actual situation.(4)The hydraulic design software Auto Bank has been conducted to calculate the seepage stability of Jinchuan tailings dam.With the assumption that the leakage of tailings leachate affects the G3017 Jinwu high speed,the conditions for infiltration of the breccia layer at the base of the tailings dam were determined,and the tailings dam was proposed.Based on the assumption that the leakage of tailings leachate affects the G3017 Jinwu Expressway,the conditions for infiltration of the breccia layer of the tailings dam foundation are determined.Suggestions on safe operation and management,daily monitoring and disaster prevention of tailings dams are proposed.
