As a new packaging and printing material, the biggest advantage of plastic water-based gravure ink is it do not contain volatile organic solvents and do not polute the environment, it will be environment-friendly printing ink with good future. As plastic water-based gravure ink can not meet the requirements of printability in adherence and dryness, the application of water-based ink on plastic has not been promoted. This project adopted dispering method of high speed grinding, selecting many kinds of pigments, emulsions and additions, determining the component of plastic water-based gravure ink through many experiments, developing the effects of component on performance of plastic water-based gravure ink, abtaining the optimum formulation of plastic water-based gravure ink.The result indicated that, the performance of plastic water-based gravure ink prepared by high speed grinding was good, the particle size of primary ink was below 10μm. The factors which influenced dispersivity of primary ink included pigment/resin ratios, types and amounts of dispersant. The pigment/resin ratios were different when preparing different types of primary inks with good dispersivity. The dispersivity of primary ink prepared by mixed dispersants was better than that prepared by single dispersant in both black and cyan inks. The amounts of dispersant in primary ink had a best value. Dispersivity of primary ink became worse when the the amount of dispersant was too large or too little. Different defoamers in the plastic water-based gravure ink had different results. The defoamer of 810 had great efficiency of defoaming. Inks prepared by single resin would not satisfy the desire of printability. In order to obtain inks with good printability, the method of mixing different types of resins was used. The mixed resin solution of inks was different on PET and BOPP. Proper quantities of cosolvent could increase drying rate and reduce the suface tention of the system. Levelling agent could improve optical performance of the inks. Substrate wetting agent improved the wetting condition by reducing the contact angle, and at the same time printablity of inks was also improved. The factors which influenced adherence of inks included resins, pigment/resin ratios, different types and amounts of dispersant.
