Ladle crane has a wide application in the metallurgical industry, and it has a significant position in the national economy occupies. The design quality and speed directly impact on product quality, cost and design cycle. Aiming at approving the design level, to make parameters selecting computer aided, to reduce design cycle length, to manage design data reasonably, key techniques such as ladle crane design principle, expert system theory, database technology, and software development technology are discussed. This paper presents a CAD system for ladle crane designing, and completes the hoisting mechanism sub-system development. Content and specific activities are summarized as follows:This paper states the basic principle of expert system, and proposes the architecture and overall framework of CAD system for ladle crane. In this system, object-oriented knowledge representation is adopted to express design knowledge; case-based reasoning is employed for parameters selecting; B-spline curve fitting is applicated to make engineering curve computer recognition.On the analysis of working principles of hoisting mechanism of ladle crane, by using multiaxial transmission system theory, some derivations are performed to summarize design formulas of hoisting mechanism of ladle crane.For the purpose of managing design data scientifically, database requirement is analyzed, relation schemas and database tables are designed, and the database physical structure is finally established with the C/S mode through the LAN.Following the above frame, ADO.NET technology, software secondary development technique and XML technology are implemented, using VB.NET as the main development platform, a CAD system for hoisting mechanism design of ladle crane is developed.Finally, a certain capacity-expansion design of 240t ladle crane has been realized in this CAD system environment. The practical example demonstrates feasibility and effectiveness of the approach and it also verifies the value of this CAD system in ladle crane design.
