In this paper, the geologic conditions of JieLong iron ore engineering have been discussed particularly based on geologic reconnaissance. On the basis of experiments and laboratory tests, the characters and stability about rock engineering of gangue dam have been studied using Sweden arc method. Based on research results and on a preliminary design of JieLong iron ore. Through research, the main conclusions as follows:(1) JieLong iron ore is new tailings field belonged to the hilly terrain strongly cutting,branched development of a "V"-type Muchonggou,and Valley area on both sides of the exposed bedrock slope. thick layer groove,continuous rock distribution,and a hard-rock. Although the dam site near three groups of "X" shear fracture, but fissures short extension. can be eliminated or under exposed situation dealt with grouting project, rock on the whole structure of middle-level stability. On the other hand,venues and the surrounding buildings have been built for several decades has proved that the use of, no wall tension, Instability and other undesirable phenomenon.(2) JieLong iron ore tailings sites simple geological structure, natural slope stability. Within the framework of the tailings area through no fault activities, impermeable surface widespread distribution of the clay layer, there is no leakage. Development of the reservoir area of vegetation, mountain slope stability.venues do not found landslides, mud-rock flows, such as adverse geological cave. No venue of active faults, site stability, geological structure, geomorphological features, geotechnical conditions for the construction of the tailings meet engineering requirements.(3)Field experiments and laboratory test results show that, venues for the silty clay-permeable layer, local distribution of the fill-and-weathered rock is a high-permeability layer, and medium weathered bedrock of aquitard(4) Reasonable dam type JieLong iron ore tailings dam, tailings dam in the dam axis position, that is the most disadvantageous position. When the crest elevation of 335 m at the location, under normal operation of its safety factor for the stability 1.243, flood situation in the operation of the safety factor of 1.174, under its special operating conditions for the stabilization of the security coefficient 1.110. So, following that position 335 m, under various working conditions, JieLong iron ore tailings comply with regulatory requirements, security and stability. (5) 2 sets of level drainage system will be designed in the 318 m and 322 m elevation of JieLong iron ore tailings dam , to prevent soakage line from overflow infiltration slope and ensure the safety of the tailings dam accumulation.
