Computer Aided Garment Design (short for CAGD), which applies the theories and technologies of the CAD area into various apparel producing sections like garment design, manufacture, management and operation. Consequently, it intensively improves the efficiency and quality of garment productions.Pattern Grading is one functional module, which is the earliest developed and most extensive used in computer aided garment design system. Compared with other functional modules of computer aided garment design system, the development of pattern grading techniques is more mature. Nevertheless, this thesis attemptes to explore a new pattern grading method in computer aided garment design system, in the special perspective of garment pattern.This thesis firstly not only summarizes the background and development trend of computer aided garment design system, various pattern grading methods that frequently used in computer aided garment design system as well, but also gives a brief introduction of the background and significance of this research. Moreover, in this thesis, garment patterns are devided into two sections by its character: basic block patterns and adapted patterns. Here"adapted pattern"refers various fashion patterns that adapted from basic block patterns. Considering the relationship between these two kinds of garment patterns, this thesis puts forward and realizes an automatic pattern grading method based on point grading method, by which the adapted patterns can be graded by applying the basic block pattern's grade rule data. Comparing with other traditional grading methods used in garment computer aided design system , this method has a higher work efficiency without manual input of the grade rules.
