Two kinds of monofunctional-POSS molecule were synthesized to contain one single 3-chloropropyl group by the corner-capping method. Sodium alkoxide group was attached to polystyrene chain by three steps. POSS/PS composites were synthesized through the condensation reaction of 3-chloropropylheptaisooctyl- POSS and functional PS. And the POSS/PS composites were also synthesized by means of melt blending. The structures of all intermediates and the POSS/PS composite were well characterized by NMR, FT-IR and XRD. The thermal properties were investigated by a differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The impact and intensive strengthen of POSS/PS were also studied. The main contents of this dissertation consist of the following point:1. The studies of organic/inorganic composites were reviewed. Polymer/POSS composites were summarized based on the synthesis methods, thermal property and enhancement mechanism.2. Two kinds of POSS with one single 3-chloropropyl group were synthesized. POSS/PS composites were synthesized by chemical method and melt blending. The structures of all intermediates and the POSS/PS composite were well characterized by NMR, FT-IR and XRD.3. Thermal and mechanical properties of POSS/PS were studied. The results indicate that the incorporation of POSS can enhance the thermal properties of PS and the mechanical properties of PS can also be enhanced with the low content of POSS.
