Camshaft is one of the key parts of vehicle engines and its processing accuracy has great influence on the dynamic performance of the engines.With the development and application of virtual machining technology, computer simulation has been widely used in manufacturing including grinding field. So it is of great importance to study on the optimization and simulation of the camshaft numerical control grinding process to improve the machining efficiency and quality and reduce cost.First, this paper analyzed the research background of this project, the camshaft grinding status at home and abroad and the application of computer simulation in grinding and camshaft grinding. Then the camshaft rotational speed optimization and simulation was made according to the camshaft constant linear velocity mathematical model with cubic spline fitting and interpolation method of which the fitting points were chose in the human-computer interaction way. This method could obviously simplify the operation process, improve the operation efficiency, smooth the speed curve and effectively decrease the top circle machining speed of the cam and reduce the respons request of the mechanical and numerical control system. It is verified by the experiment that the machining results totally met the accuracy requirement of the factory. After that, a camshaft virtual 3D scene system was established by GLScene which could be used to represent the camshaft grinding dynamic process and enhance the realistic experience and improve the operation efficiency; the camshaft grinding real time 3D dynamic simulation parametric design was developed by the dynamic engine GLCadencer of GLScene. The user could observe the camshaft grinding process in different perspectives. Both the whole process system and the partial details could be seen clearly so that and collisions and interferences could be directly found out through the user's observation to judge and predict whether the camshaft machining process plan met the machining request. So the simulation of the camshaft grinding process could be used to take the place of the test machining.The camshaft grinding process dynamic optimization and simulation software was developed by C++ Builder which helped with the interface design and data calculating and 3D scene manage fuction and dynamic engine of GLScene helped with the camshaft grinding process virtual scene establishment and 3D real time dynamic simulation. In this module, the data calculation, speed optimization and dynamic simulation are integrated together and specially used for the grinding of different types of camshafts. So the simulation module is very independent, universal and specific.
