Gardenia fruit is a traditional Chinese medicine for treatment of jaundice hepatitis, hypertension and diabetes. It is also widely used as a natural colorant. Fenguan 1 were collected to study. Extraction and purification conditions of Gardenia yellow pigment and stability of the colorant were mainly studied in this paper. So from this research, we can get theory and data basis for further extraction and refining gardenia yellow pigment.Based on the conventional production technology of Gardenia yellow pigment, membrane separation was mainly used throughout the entire producing process and water was considered as extraction solvent. By using the new technology, which take the place of traditional alcohol extraction and evaporation concentration, we had no need for solvent recovery and can save the energy and production costs.1,The extraction conditions of gardenia yellow pigment were obtained by optimization and comparison experiment. The optimum combination was that diameter of fruit particles was 0.5mm, extraction time was 1 hours at room temperature, ration of solid-liquid was 1:10, In this extraction conditions, we obtained the color value of color product was 53.29, the OD(A238nm/A440nm) was 2.10.[0]2,Using the membrane separation technology, we could got when the diameter of ceramic membrane was 200nm,30±2 degrees,and the pressure was 0.2MPa, two dialysis in Micro-filtration process that was the optimum conditions in crude extracting solution of the gardenia yellow pigment. According to this method when the remaining liquid for liquid raw materials 30% of weight, adding distilled water to double the amount of dialysis twice. It can increase the transmission and reduce product losses.3,Experiments showed that using 3000 dalton Ultra-filtration membrane, the pressure was 0.4MPa, the clarified solution was refined by Ultra-filtration at room temperature. It could separate Gardenia yellow pigment with Geniposide. 4,Using Nano-filtration membrane separation technology to produce concentrated liquid gardenia yellow. Experiments showed that concentrated by using Nano-filtration membranes of 150 Dalton, the pressure was 3.0MPa, The loss rate of Gardenia yellow pigment was smaller than 0.02%. And the concentrated pigment solution to reach a multiple of 3 times. Then the concentrating solution was freeze-dried. The OD value of the frozen power decreased to 0.175, the color value was 547.
