In our country a hidden danger which may cause severity accident exsits in some minitype factories of metallurgy when they use cranes to carry molten steel. They use usual type of crane instead of the casting crane which is expensive but safe is the main reason why this kinds of accidents happened. The writer design a new type casting crane with two hoist ropes to solve this problem. And the new crane can achieve the effect of the casting crane with four hoist ropes and meet safety laws but much cheaper. It can be widely used in minitype factories.Because of the limited space in the crane, we can conclude the key problem is that we must install a special reducer which can be fitted for in the limited space. The standard reducer we can obtain now is not meet the requirement by all appearances. The writer utilize the optimization design of meshing parameter to solve this issue.Optimal design of gear is greatly important in modern machine design. In a traditional way, because of the confinement of the professional theory and the tool of calculation, the designer can only establish a blue print by his or her experience and judgement first, and then analyse and check it systemicly. It usually takes a lot of designers' research, practice and improvement generation by generation, and then you can be satisfied with it. With the development of the industry, in that the enhancemenet of the quality of the products and we have to cut the time of the periods of the designment, the traditional way is out of time.The optimization design of mechanical structure based on the optimized design theory and computation, call find out the best way from all designs and increases the effectiveness and quality of design. As a new subject, optimal design is widely used in the field such as management of manufacture, the command in army, the scientific experiment and so on, and it is used in optimal design, too. The writer put forward the Complex method. And the paper presents the optimal design of the two-grade helical cylindrical gear retarder in this way. Based on designed experience data, the dependability restraint condition of gear intensity is introduced during the static optimal design on the speed reducer of two-grade helical cylindrical gear retarder, the mathematics models of dependability optimal design on the speed reducers of two class helical gears is setup, then designing instance is given.The minimum distance of center axis of the new type casting crane is 750 millimetres, but this kind of crane can only support 46kW. The crane can support 70.3kW by this measure of the optimization design at the same condition which including the size, the material and the heat treatment. It satisfies the specical requirement of the new type casting crane. And we can avoid accidents with low cost in the factories of metallurgy in our country.
