Study On Performance And Application Of Banana Fiber And Banana/Cotton Blended Knitted Fabrics

Banana fiber fabric is attracted due to unique properties and now is used in the field of clothing manufacture because of its green environmental protection, cool and comfort handle, and sustainable development.In this study, knittability of banana yarns and banana/cotton blended yarns were analyzed. After banana jerseys and banana/cotton blended jerseys were developed, they were pretreated, dyed and soft finished. And then some of their properties, such as air permeability, drapery, moisture absorption and emission and arching ability, were measured with some modern testing equipment according to the standard testing methods. The results are shown that in comparisons with the properties of ramie/cotton and linen/cotton blended jerseys, banana/cotton blended jerseys are of good knittability, and their adiathermic property, air permeability, and bursting strength are better than that of cotton jerseys, however, they are slightly inferior for stability, dimensional stability, drapability and wrinkle resistance. While the pure banana yarns are difficult to knit in flat knitting machine, and the jerseys are super(?)r in drapability, air permeability and moisture absorption, and bad at durability and softness of handle. The present study will be useful in application of banana knitted fabrics and development of new product about banana fibers.
