The research of combination collector is an important subject on the ilmenite research at present. Considering the difficult separation of fine ilmenite from Panzhihua, a new collector-FW is used to concentrate ilmenite in this paper and gets good indexes.Four representative collectors (soldium oleate,GYB, C7~9 hydroxamic acid, FW) as well as their combinations acting on pure ilmenite and titanaugite are studied by the single mineral tests. The ilmenite flotation mechanism was determined by zeta potential measurement, infrared spectrum analysis and solution chemistry calculation.The results are as follows:The results of single mineral flotation tests show that there is a great difference of floatability between ilmenite and titanaugite,especially under the acidic conditions.The preferableseparation performance can be achieved in a certain pH range. The collecting ability of four collectors is ranking as:soldium oleate>FW>C7~9 hydroxamic acid> GYB.FW shows a good selectivity and activity under acidic conditions.The combination of GYB and soldium oleate as well as the combination of GYB and FW have a better flotation performance than that of a single collector in the collection of ilmenite.The results show that there is a synergistic effect between the collectors.New collectors of FW and GYBareused in theflotation tests for Panzhihua ilmenite.With a content of 22.23 TiO2% in the feed from Panzhihua,,a concentrate of TiO2 with 49.42% grade and a recovery of 63.72% is obtained through open circuit test and a concentrate containing 47.43% TiO2 with a recovery of 86.19% is gained from small closed circuit test. The results indicate that FW+GYB are effective collectors for ilmenite flotation.According to the research on the surface properties of ilmenite, the four collectors have a relatively stong adsorption on the surface of ilmenite,and mainly being chemical adsorption.Based on solution chemistry calculation, the Ti,Fe particles on ilmenite surface dissolves in the water and hydration reaction occurs, which results in the generation of a variety of complex ions and neutral complexes in the solution.. The main ions on ilmenite surface are Ti(OH)3+,Fe(OH)+,Fe3+, which are beneficial to form ion-molecule association complex,ion-molecule coadsorption.
