A Study On The Performance Of The Bamboo Pulp Fiber Fabrics

Bamboo fiber is a new kind of textile material and is getting more and more popular. It is very important to systematically investigate the properties of bamboo fiber and its products and to develop more products. By now, the research on the original bamboo fiber is in the initial stage, and much more research work has been on bamboo pulp fiber, which are primarily focused on the textiles processing, including pure and blended yarns, knitted and woven fabrics, beddings, etc.The studys on the bamboo pulp fiber fabrics have not been systematically done on the the whole performance, which, instead, are mainly on a single property or several properties.In this thesis, the whole performance of 15 fabrics, including 5 bamboo pulp fiber fabrics,9 bamboo pulp fiber/cotton blended fabrics and 1 cotton fabric, were studied. The whole performance includs fabric handle, thermal-wet comfort properties, fabric shape aesthetics and the abrasion resistance of the fabric. The results showed that:(1) On basic mechanical properties:The results showed that the bamboo pulp fiber fabrics were behavior with higher tensile deformation, higher shear deformation and lower compression deformation compared to cotton fabric. On the resistance bending deformation ability and the surface friction performance, there was no significant difference between the bamboo pulp fiber fabrics and the cotton fabric. On fabric handle:The results showed that the bamboo pulp fiber fabrics were smoother and softer than the cotton fabric; the scroopy handle of the bamboo pulp fiber fabrics were higher than that of the cotton fabric; but the fullness and the parallelism of the bamboo pulp fiber fabrics were lower than that of the cotton fabric. Under the 95% confidence level, the fabric stiffness had positive correlation with fabric tightness, the fabric parallelism had positive correlation with fabric tightness and centiare gram weight, the fabric flexibility had the negative correlation with fabric tightness. Factor analysis was carried out to analyze the 16 basic mechanical property items of the fabrics, five principal factors were extracted, which were respectively:the deformation and roughness factor, stiffness factor, heaviness factor, surface neat factor and fluffy factor. The result had some relation with Kawabata's primary handles.(2) Fabric shape aesthetics and the abrasion resistance:Partial correlation analysis was carried out to analyze the test results. It was found that the bamboo pulp fiber fabrics showed better drape than cotton fabric, and the fabric drape improved with the increase of the content of the bamboo pulp fiber in the blended fabrics. It was found that the bamboo pulp fiber fabrics showed better crease recovery than cotton fabric, and the fabric crease recovery improved with the increase of the content of the bamboo pulp fiber in the blended fabrics, fabric crease resistance was getting worse with the increase of fabric weight. There is no correlation between the fabric structure and the fabic napping and balling-up.(3) Thermal-wet comfort properties:The study showed that fiber type on permeability of the fabric was not obvious, the fabric's tightness was the main factor of permeability; Bamboo pulp fiber fabric's moisture permeability, transfer of liquid water and conduct cool feelings were better than the cotton fabric, the same fiber fabric's conduct cool feelings was mainly depended on the surface of the weave construction excluding of the fabric material,linear density,surface density etc.(4) Based on the method of ANN system and Tool Functions of BP in ANN Toolbox of Matlab, The studies showed that the neural network method used to evaluate fabric's thermal-wet comfort properties was practical. Simulation results showed that the moisture permeability had relatively higher accuracy, followed by the maximum heat transfer rate, the predictive accuracy of the the transfer of liquid water and the permeability was low by simulation calculation. It was because that the range of data normalization of permeability was in 0.0297~0.7157, which reduces the simulation accuracy of the predicted and measured values of the errors, while the range of data normalization of the moisture permeability was in 0.4257~0.5743, the minim value was avoided, so moisture permeability had a relatively accuracy.According to this study, we hope that the product developers could design and development new unique fabric products, which are consist with the fiber properties.
