Virtual assembly , as an important component technology of virtual manufacturing in recent years,has been concerned in academic circles and Industrial sector, and affected the mode of agile manufacturing, virtual manufacturing. Virtual assembly can verify the correctness of the design and operation problems in the assembly. Then we can change the model, and see the display of the assembly process. Using this technology is not only conducive to the conduct concurrent engineering, but also can significantly short the product development cycle, reduce production costs, improve product competitiveness in the market.Based on the analysis of domestic and international status of virtual assembly, and deeply researching on the key technologies of virtual assembly, combined with the characteristics of virtual assembly, this article has designed and achieved a semi-immersive virtual assembly system based on Quest 3D and interactive services. This work is summarized below:System described the status,deficiencies and related concepts of virtual assembly. Based on the analysis of modeling theory of virtual assembly, this article has designed and achieved model transformation between Solidworks and virtual assembly system, and well solved model data integration between the CAD system and virtual assembly systems.Using data gloves, position trackers, and head mounted display as the interactive device of virtual assembly, this article has achieved the movement of data glove and tracking the position and orientation of virtual hand real-time, so that the assembly process is more realistic, interaction between man and computer is natural, the operability of the computer is greatly improved, the efficiency of interaction is greatly improved.Based on analysis and comparison of several commonly used collision detection algorithms, this article selected the RAPID library based on OBB collision detection algorithm. With the interface support of Quest 3D simulation platform, effectively solved the collision detection in virtual assembly problems, and ensured the accuracy and real-time of virtual assembly system operation,Finally achieved the design of the reducer virtual assembly system based on Quest 3D, through the assembly simulation process, the system has proved an ideal immersion and reaction speed, proposed a new technique in the assembly of the product presents, and benefited the product design optimization and assembly quality.
