Church architecture is the representative configuration of western architecture. The classical church forms various periods of characteristic style and spatial configuration, while modern church architecture applies unclassical materials, techniques, idea to convey the same church atmosphere as the classical church, and satisfy the identical operating requirements. It implicates a deep level of significance beyond the technique, namely pursuing the essence of space, which are the purpose of this paper and the significance for discussion. As can be seen, western church architecture, affected by science and technology, culture and architecture thoughts, has transformed from the traditional to the modern conforming to socioeconomic development trend. Chinese religious architecture, however, changes less up to now. In the impact of such factors as economic globalization and cultural diversity, how the religious place spirit can be realized is an important issue our architects and designers should face. The religion corresponds to religious place to some extent, while leaves no one-to-one correspondence to the external morphology of an architecture, as can be seen from the historical evolution and current status of western churches. This paper, through the conclusion and analysis of internal conformation and external configuration of western churches, explores the characteristic points in the transformation of church architecture design, reveals from a deep level the significance of methodology for the transformation of western church architecture design and provides new theory and practice reference for Chinese modern churches-the special place for psychomotor activity.
