With the rapid development of economy and the improvement of people's living standard, the demand of cars has been also increased. The annual auto production and sales of China exceeded 13 million in 2009, ranking first in the word. Although our auto output is very large in amount, there is still a long distance between China and a powerful nation of automotive industry. Engine is a key assembly of an automobile, and its manufacturing process is trailing behind developed countries as well. As an important part of engine, the manufacturing and assembly quality of which has an important impact on normal operation of engine. If the piston cannot be fully cleaned before assembly, residual scraps on the surface and other impurities will have serious effect upon the sliding bearing of engine connecting rod ends and cylinder; if the deposit of carbon on piston surface cannot be removed drastically, the status of engine also cannot be improved. Especially for the disadvantages of the traditional piston cleaning measure, this paragraph is about some researches including choosing munificent and cleaning process, at the same time the cleaning equipment has been designed, achievements are as the following main points:(1) After referring to lots of relevant literatures, quo of engine piston cleaning has been investigated, dirty and dust on piston surface is analyzed and proper cleaning agent-C12H24 is also chosen.(2) Aiming at the advantages and disadvantages of all kinds of cleaning methods and the components of dirt on piston surface, in particular, the difficulty of cleaning the carbon on the used piston, firstly adopting vacuum ultrasonic cleaning method for its cleaning, taking the full advantages of ultrasonic cleaning methods; the second step is vacuum stirring cleaning; the final step is vacuum steam cleaning and drying.(3) Based on the cleaning agent and cleaning process, pipeline drawing of cleaning equipment, pneumatic circuit, mechanical transmission and relevant parts and frame have been designed using concurrent design method, the calculation of strength and stiffness on some important parts have also been done.(4) A variety of sensors, servo motors and PLC for driving and controlling and developed parameters are selected. This cleaning equipment is not only used to clean the pistons before assembly, it also can be used as cleaning equipment for repair shop to clean the used pistons which have carbon deposition. If the washing basket has been modified, it can also be used to clean connecting rods and cylinder liners. The adaptability of the cleaning equipment is strong, having higher efficiency than manual cleaning and achieving higher cleanliness than other devices.
