With the development of substation communication systems, Domestic and foreign manufacturers has introduced a number of intelligent electronic devices (IED) of substation automation system.For the convenience of a variety of substation IED management and device connection, we need a common way of communication achieved. IEC61850 proposes a common communication standard, through a series of standardized equipment, to form a standard output and achieve the system seamlessly.The latest version of international IEC61850 of the substation communication network and distribution system provides the comprehensive specification to the construction of high-speed, reliable and open substation communication system, so that intelligent electronic devices from different manufacturers to achieve interoperability.This paper takes IEC61850 and IEC61850-based substation communication system for the study, sums up the content and core technologies of IEC61850, as well as the recent Research. This paper is based on analysis of the information modeling of IEC61850,in accordance to development methods of IEC61850 to develop instances.The article realized the system modeling, building intelligent electronic devices (IED) information model, substation document configuration, intelligent electronic device information model realization, the mapping and implementation of communications services, equipment conformance testing and other aspects, and develops communication terminal by building experimental platform, which focuses on the communication service mapping and implementation.By packet capture software for communications interception and analysis of data packet structure,verification results show that the communication module enables accurate, real-time communication, and enforceability of IEC61850-based engineering development methods and abstract communication service interface mapping ACSI to MMS. The correct authentication of the development process and IEC61850 in the application in substation automation system have reference value to the implementation of IEC61850 for engineering.
