Highway spatial data is the core part in highway construction and management of information. Because of its inherent variety and large volume of data, complex relationships and other unique data characteristics, it is important and difficult to organize and store them effectively, which core is modeling geospatial objects and their relationships. In design of highway spatial database system it is the most important core to use which kind of data model to organize and manage spatial data and how to model spatial data and design spatial database. The paper aims to explore the object-oriented spatial data modeling based on Geodatabase and use the object-oriented analysis and modeling techniques to the every aspect of construction of highway spatial database system.(1)The theory and technology of object orientation and spatial data models. The core technology and modeling language, styles of spatial data model and its advantages and disadvantages and unified and intelligent Geodatabase are described. The data organization and storage of Geodatabase and the modeling technical methods are discussed and analyzed comprehensively.(2) The technical route and software environment. Based on the integrated management of highways, with the current advanced Geographic Information System (GIS), database, computer technology, the technical program of constructing highway spatial database is proposed, which uses Visio as model design tool, SQL Server2000 as platform, ArcSDE 9.0 as Spatial Database Engine, ArcGIS Engine as Geographic information system basic platform and Visual Basic 6.0 as development tools.(3) Design of highway spatial database. With in-depth analysis of the characteristics of highway data and object-oriented technology view, highway spatial data are generalized to four object levels including basic map layer, transport network layer, event layer and application layer. Highway data are modeled using Visio 2003, highway spatial database designed in detail and UML chart of highway object model established. (4) Realization of system functions. The system is developed and integrated using C/S structure, realizing the highway electronic map view, information Query, tabular output of roads and bridges data,3D showing of highway, project management, document management, account management and so on. This provides integrated management for highway geographic information and project design and information service for management, maintenance and design of highway.
