The development of GIS needs the database system which can not only memorize the attribute data, but also the spatial data. The spatial database is the core component of GIS, its efficiency directly determines to the efficiency and performance's guide line of GIS. Recently , along with the application of GIS in every walk of life, people bring forward the furthermore performance demand to spatial database, the spatial database designed based on the conventional relative database already don't meet the need of new type's GIS, therefore we need to import a new spatial database storage mode to set up spatial database. Firstly, the thesis briefly introduces the whole framework of the system of water level emulation and hydropower integration dispatch of QingJiang .Secondly, it analyses the several means of foundation of spatial database and their excellence and shortcoming, and emphatically expatiates on the advantage of the means using the middleware——ArcSDE which combined with the relative DBMS to build the spatial database. At the same time, the thesis describes in detail the theories and key classes of Geodatabase, expounds the work theory and structure of ArcSDE. At the design of the spatial database, we divides the data to two classes such as land and river, and stores them according to the two parts, and uses the ArcGIS Hydro Data Model to store the data of river part. At the end of the thesis, we put forward the assumption of building the spatial data warehouse, and recount the theories and application of spatial data warehouse and spatial data mining. Through the building and usage of spatial database of QingJiang, the database using Geodatabase and ArcSDE to build is proved to utilize efficiently the multilevel spatial index mechanism, improve the efficiency of the storage and management of spatial data greatly; achieve C/S mode, and diminish the burthen of network. Consequently using the storage mode to build the spatial database is a reasonable means, it has sense with the research and development of the future spatial database.
