As the theoretical principle of spatial data information organization and management, spatial data model play an important role in GIS development. Spatial data model has experienced three generations:CAD data model, Coverage data model and Geodatabase data model. Based on the analysis and comparison of these three generations of data models, Geodatabase data model was introduced in detail, including the overview, classification and structure of Geodatabase data model, and underground pipeline spatial data model was constructed using Geodatabase data model in this paper, and applying it to the specific system development proved that the model is reasonable and efficient.Underground pipelines have the characteristics of large quantity, various variety, complex arrangement of spatial distribution and high security requirements, the number of underground pipelines will be increased and underground pipelines are continually updated. For such complex pipelines, the traditional way of underground pipelines data management based on drawings and graphics has such defects:slow update, sluggish response, information dispersion as well as indirect perceived graphics and texts. It can’t catch up with the requirements of normal operation, accident prevention, timely update and fast, efficient management for underground pipelines. Therefore, Using a more rational organizational way for spatial data to organize and manage underground pipelines data is very important. To solve this problem, this paper introduces Geodatabase data model to organize and manage underground pipelines.In this paper, the actual situation of underground pipelines of one petrochemical enterprises are taken as the subject of study, based on systematic analysis and organization of underground pipelines. Firstly in-depth analysis is carried out on WebGIS、Geodatabase data model and3D visualization technology. Considering the characteristics of underground pipelines data, the idea of building underground pipelines spatial data model based on Geodatabase data model is proposed, on basis of which underground pipelines spatial data model using a systematic way and CASE tools is built. The underground pipelines spatial data model is imported into ArcGIS. Thus, the underground pipelines spatial database based on Geodatabase is established. Then, the basic principles of3D graph and OpenGL are introduced in detail. Catering to the characteristics of the underground pipeline data,3D data model for underground pipelines is established. Lastly, taking ArcGIS Engine and ArcGIS Server as platform, based on C/S, B/S combined mode, using ArcGIS Engine Developer Kit and ArcGIS API for Flex technology, the underground pipelines system is designed and developed. This system consists of two subsystems, namely, underground pipelines subsystem for synthetic application and public service subsystem based on WebGIS, Which has achieved the functions of related data management, inquiry, statistics, sectional analysis and accident analysis upon underground pipelines.
